| 1 | A novel bioremediation strategy for petroleum hydrocarbon pollutants using salt tolerant Corynebacterium variabile HRJ4 and biochar显示文摘The present work aimed to develop a novel strategy to bioremediate the petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants in the environment.Salt tolerant bacterium was isolated from Dagang oilfield,China and identified as Corynebacterium variabile HRJ4 based on 16 S r RNA gene sequence analysis.The bacterium had a high salt tolerant capability and biochar was developed as carrier for the bacterium.The bacteria with biochar were most effective in degradation of n-alkanes(C16,C18,C19,C26,C28) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(NAP,PYR) mixture.The result demonstrated that immobilization of C.variabile HRJ4 with biochar showed higher degradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons(THPs) up to 78.9%after 7-day of incubation as compared to the free leaving bacteria.The approach of this study will be helpful in clean-up of petroleum-contamination in the environments through bioremediation process using eco-friendly and cost effective materials like biochar. | Hairong Zhang Jingchun Tang Lin Wang Juncheng Liu Ranjit Gajanan Gurav Kejing Sun | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,9: | 25 |
| 2 | Management of diabolical diabetes mellitus and periodontitis nexus: Are we doing enough?显示文摘Periodontitis is the commonest oral disease affecting population worldwide.This disease is notorious for the devastation of tooth supporting structures,ensuing in the loss of dentition.The etiology for this disease is bacterial biofilm,which accumulates on the teeth as dental plaque.In addition to the biofilm microorganisms,other factors such as environmental,systemic and genetic are also responsible in progression of periodontitis.Diabetes mellitus(DM) is metabolic disorder which has an impact on the global health.DM plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of periodontitis.Periodontitis is declared as the 'sixth' major complication of DM.Evidence based literature has depicted an enhanced incidence and severity of periodontitis in subjects with DM.A 'two way' relationship has been purported between periodontitis and DM.Mutual management of both conditions is necessary.Periodontal therapy(PT) may assist to diminish the progression of DM and improve glycemic control.Various advanced technological facilities may be utilized for the purpose of patient education and disease management.The present paper clarifies the etio-pathogenesis of periodontitis,establishing it as a complication of DM and elaborating the various mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis.The role of PT in amelioration of DM and application of digital communication will be discussed.Overall,it is judicious to create an increased patient cognizance of the periodontitis-DM relationship.Conjunctive efforts must be undertaken by the medical and oral health care professionals for the management of periodontitis affected DM patients. | Abhijit N Gurav | 2016 | World Journal of Diabetes2016,7,4: | 22 |
| 3 | Synthesis of ethyl acetate by esterification of acetic acid with ethanol over a heteropolyacid on montmorillonite K10显示文摘In present work,liquid phase esterification of acetic acid with ethanol over dodecatungestophosphoric acid (DTPA) supported on K10 montmorillonite was systematically studied and optimization of process parameters was carried out.The 20% m/m DTPA/K10 was found to be the optimum catalyst with 90% acetic acid conversion and 100% ethyl acetate selectivity.The study was also explored to see the feasibility of 20% m/m DTPA/K10 as a catalyst for the alkylation of acetic acid with other alcohols like methanol,iso-propanol and n-butanol.The 20% m/m DTPA/K10 has shown increased activity with the increase in carbon number,at the same alcohol reflux.The results are novel. | Hanumant Gurav Vijay V.Bokade | 2010 | Journal of Natural Gas Chemistry2010,19,2: | 6 |
| 4 | Porous Calcium Phosphate Ceramic Scaffolds for Tissue Engineering显示文摘This study examined the biological response of two porous calcium phosphate ceramics, hydroxyapatite (HA) and hydroxyapaptite/β-tricalcium phosphate (HA/β-TCP) scaffolds. Three different cell types, a human osteoblastic cell line (HOS), primary human osteoblasts (HOB) and human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), were used to examine biocompatibility and osteoinductive capacity. The experimental results showed both materials were highly biocompatible and proliferation was significantly greater on pure HA (P< 0.01), with a peak in proliferation at day 7. Protein levels were significantly higher (P<0.05) than the control Thermanox (TMX(tm)) for both test materials. Osteoinduction of MSCs was observed on both test materials, with cells seeded on HA/β-TCP showing greater alkaline phosphatase activity compared to HA alone, indicating an enhancement in osteoinductive property. | 5 | Effect of aqueous extract of Solanum xanthocarpum Schrad. & Wendl. on postmenopausal syndrome in ovariectomized rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: Solanum xanthocarpum Schrad. & Wendl.(Solanaceae) is present in many Ayurveda compound formulations including Chavanaprasha and Dasamoolarishta. The whole plant is used in conditions such as inflammation, constipation and promoting conception in females. In the present study, we carried out different tests to evaluate the effect of aqueous extract of Solanum xanthocarpum(SXE) in postmenopausal syndrome. METHODS: The study was carried out in bilaterally ovariectomized one-month-old Wistar rats(40–50 g). Bilaterally ovariectomized(OVX) Wistar rats were divided into four groups(n=6) receiving different treatments, consisting of a vehicle(distilled water), aqueous extract of Solanum xanthocarpum at two different doses(200 and 400 mg/kg) administered orally daily for 90 d and standard drug β estradiol at a dose of 1 mg/kg administered subcutaneously biweekly for 90 d. Estrogenic activity was assessed by vaginal cornifi cation, sexual behavior, serum estradiol and uterine weight to body weight ratio. Antiosteoporotic activity was assessed on the basis of biomechanical and biochemical parameters followed by histopathological studies, and antidepressant activity was assessed by forced swim test. RESULTS: SXE showed presence of steroids. At the dose of 200 mg/kg, it signifi cantly improved all the parameters of sexual behavior(P<0.01), caused vaginal cornifi cation, and increased serum estradiol and uterine weight(P<0.01). It also significantly improved all the parameters of bone strength as well as depression(P<0.01). Histopathology of bones confi rmed the above fi ndings. | 8 | Oxidation of propane to acrylic acid and acetic acid over alkaline earth-doped Mo-V-Sb-O_x catalysts显示文摘Alkaline earth metal (Mg,Ca,Sr and Ba)-doped Mo-V-Sb-O x catalysts,prepared by a dry-up method,have been investigated for their catalytic performance in the oxidation of propane under different reaction conditions.The catalysts have been characterized by N2 adsorption-desorption,temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) of NH3,SEM and XRD.Influence of water vapor on the catalytic performance,particularly on the selectivities to acetic acid and acrylic acid,has also been studied.The selectivity to acrylic acid was improved significantly by the doping of alkaline earth metals to Mo-V-Sb-O x catalysts.The surface acidic sites of the catalyst decreased with the doping of the catalyst with alkaline earth metals,which ultimately was found to be beneficial for obtaining high selectivity to acrylic acid.The catalytic activity and product selectivities were found to be influenced by the reaction temperature,C3H8/O2 ratio and space velocity.A significant improvement in the selectivity to acrylic acid has also been observed by the addition of water vapor in the feed of propane and oxygen in the oxidation of propane. | Chandan S.Chaudhari Shailesh S.Sable Hanumant Gurav Ashutosh A.Kelkar Vilas H.Rane | 2010 | Journal of Natural Gas Chemistry2010,19,6: | 2 |
