3Nitrate induction triggers different transcriptional changes in a high and a low nitrogen use efficiency maize inbred line显示文摘In higher plants, NO3 can induce its own uptake and the magnitude of this induction is positively related to the external anion concentration. This phenomenon has been characterized in both herbaceous and woody plants. Here,different adaptation strategies of roots from two maize(Zea mays L., ZmAGOs) inbred lines differing in nitrogen use efficiency(NUE) and exhibiting different timing of induction were discussed by investigating NO3 ‐induced changes in their transcriptome. Lo5 line(high NUE) showing the maximum rate of NO3 uptake 4 h after the provision of 200 mmol/L NO3 treatment modulated a higher number of transcripts relative to T250(low NUE) that peaked after 12 h. The two inbred lines share only 368 transcripts that are modulated by the treatment with NO3 and behaved differently when transcripts involved in anion uptake and assimilation were analyzed. T250 line responded to the NO3 induction modulating this group of Researchgenes as reported for several plant species. On the contrary,the Lo5 line did not exhibit during the induction changes in this set of genes. 4Role of Th17 cells in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis显示文摘Since early description of CD4/CD8 T cell duality, continuous discovery of functional T lymphocyte subsets and their related cytokines constitutes major progress in our understanding of the immune response. T-lymphocyte derived lymphokines and environmental cytokines are essential for both innate and antigen-specific immune responses to a wide variety of agents. Following immune battle and aggression overcome, cytokines may return against neighbored cells/organs, causing pathogenic hypersensitivity reactions, including autoimmune diseases. Due to their cytokine production, CD4+ T helper lymphocyte subsets may be considered as one the major players of the immune response. Among CD4+ T cell subsets, the identification of interleukin-17-producing cells(Th17) led to better understanding of coordinated cytokine involvement during inflammatory reactions together with the subsequent clarification of complex interactions between these mediators. 5Hypertension and chronic ethanol consumption: What do we know after a century of study?显示文摘The influences of life habits on the cardiovascularsystem may have important implications for publichealth, as cardiovascular diseases are among the lead-ing causes of shorter life expectancy worldwide. A linkbetween excessive ethyl alcohol(ethanol) consumptionand arterial hypertension was first suggested early lastcentury. Since then, this proposition has received con-siderable attention. Support for the concept of ethanolas a cause of hypertension derives from several epi-demiologic studies demonstrating that in the generalpopulation, increased blood pressure is significantlycorrelated with ethanol consumption. Although thelink between ethanol consumption and hypertension iswell established, the mechanism through which etha-nol increases blood pressure remains elusive. Possiblemechanisms underlying ethanol-induced hypertensionwere proposed based on clinical and experimental ob-servations. These mechanisms include an increase insympathetic nervous system activity, stimulation of therenin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, an increase of intracellular Ca2+ in vascular smooth muscle, increased oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. The pres-ent report reviews the relationship between ethanol intake and hypertension and highlights some mecha-nisms underlying this response. 6Knowledge management and the entrepreneur:Insights from Ikujiro Nonaka's Dynamic Knowledge Creation model(SECI)显示文摘A key goal of knowledge management(KM)is to foster innovation through the ceation of new knowledge.Surprisingly,there is little research on KM in the context of entrepre-neurship,a domain where innovation is considered essential.This paper extends estab-lished theories and frameworks for KM to the understudied context of KM in small and medium entrepreneurial firms,particularly young startups.Translating KM fr ameworks,such as the widely studied SECI model,into the entrepreneurial domain could eventually help startups in their quest for sustainability and growth.The SECI model is an aspir ational process with which to build new knowledge,including the explicit knowledge assets that startups commonly lack.However,an aspiration is only useful if the subject knows where he or she stands in relation to it.This study focuses on understanding whether entre-preneurial activities embed into,and can further enable,the'virtuous'knowledge-creation cycle.The secondary objective of this paper is to acknowledge Ikujiro Nonaka's contribution to western and eastern KM theories,and extend his seminal theories into other domains,such as small and medium enterprises.This work pilots the use of a content analysis technique largely used in psychology to analyze the connection between entrepreneurship and KM.With this method,the study highlights how the four phases of the SECI model apply to startup firms in a business incubator in the United States.It provides insights into the knowledge-creation process of entrepreneurs,and suggests how entrepreneurs can improve startup survival through greater awareness and use of KM in their business planning and operational activities.Cesar Bandera Fazel Keshtkar Michael R.Bartolacci Shiromani Neerudu Katia Passerini 2017International Journal of Innovation Studies2017,1,3:4

8Feasibility and safety of cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation inpatients with congenital heart disease显示文摘BACKGROUND The prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) is on the rise in the aging population with congenital heart disease (CHD). A few case series have described the feasibility and early outcomes associated with radiofrequency catheter ablation of AF centered on electrically isolating pulmonary veins (PV) in patients with CHD. In contrast, cryoballoon ablation has not previously been studied in this patient population despite its theoretical advantages, which include a favorable safety profile and shorter procedural time. AIM To assess the safety and feasibility of cryoballoon ablation for AF in an initial cohort of patients with CHD. METHODS The study population consisted of consecutive patients with CHD and cryoballoon ablation for AF at the Montreal Heart Institute between December 2012 and June 2017. Procedural complications, acute success, and 1-year freedom from recurrent AF after a single procedure with or without antiarrhythmic drugs were assessed. Procedures were performed under conscious sedation. Left atrial access was obtained via a single transseptal puncture or through an existing atrial septal defect (ASD). Cryoballoon occlusion was assessed by distal injection of 50% diluted contrast into the pulmonary vein. At least one 240-second cryothermal application was performed upon obtaining complete pulmonary vein occlusion. Following ablation, patients were routinely followed at outpatient visits at 1, 3, 6, and 12 mo, and then annually. RESULTS Ten patients, median age 57.9 (interquartile range 48.2-61.7) years, 60% female, met inclusion criteria and were followed for 2.8 (interquartile range 1.4-4.5) years.Two had moderately complex CHD (sinus venosus ASD with partial anomalous pulmonary venous return;aortic coarctation with a persistent left superior vena cava), with the remainder having simple defects. AF was paroxysmal in 8 (80.0%) and persistent in 2 (20.0%) patients. The pulmonary vein anatomy was normal in 6 (60.0%) patients. Four had left common PV (n = 3) and/or 3 right PV (n = 2). Electrical pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) was acutely successful in all. One patient had transient phrenic nerve palsy that recovered during the intervention. No major complication occurred. One year after a single ablation procedure, 6 (60%) patients remained free from AF. One patient with recurrent AF had recovered pulmonary vein conduction and underwent a second PVI procedure. A second patient had ablation of an extra-pulmonary vein trigger for AF. 12Ionized jet deposition of antimicrobial and stem cell friendly silver-substituted tricalcium phosphate nanocoatings on titanium alloy显示文摘Orthopedic infections pose severe societal and economic burden and interfere with the capability of the implanted devices to integrate in the host bone,thus significantly increasing implants failure rate.To address infection and promote integration,here nanostructured antibacterial and bioactive thin films are proposed,obtained,for the first time,by Ionized Jet Deposition(IJD)of silver-substituted tricalcium phosphate(Ag-TCP)targets on titanium.Coatings morphology,composition and mechanical properties are characterized and proof-of-concept of biocompatibility is shown.Antimicrobial efficacy is investigated against four Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial strains and against C.albicans fungus,by investigating the modifications in planktonic bacterial growth in the absence and presence of silver.Then,for all bacterial strains,the capability of the film to inhibit bacterial adhesion is also tested.Results indicate that IJD permits a fine control over films composition and morphology and deposition of films with suitable mechanical properties.Biological studies show a good efficacy against Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Enterococcus faecalis and against fungus Candida albicans,with evidences of efficacy against planktonic growth and significant reduction of bacterial cell adhesion.No cytotoxic effects are evidenced for equine adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells(ADMSCs),as no reductions are caused to cells viability and no interference is assessed in cells differentiation towards osteogenic lineage,in the presence of silver.Instead,thanks to nanostructuration and biomimetic composition,tricalcium phosphate(TCP)coatings favor cells viability,also when silver-substituted.These findings show that silver-substituted nanostructured coatings are promising for orthopedic implant applications.Gabriela Graziani Katia Barbaro Inna V.Fadeeva Daniele Ghezzi Marco Fosca Enrico Sassoni Gianluca Vadalà Martina Cappelletti Francesco Valle Nicola Baldini Julietta V.Rau 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,8:2

20Role of size and pretreatment of Pd particles on their behaviour in the direct synthesis of H_2O_2显示文摘Two families of catalysts, based on Pd nanoparticles supported on ceramic asymmetric tubular alumina membranes, are studies in the direct synthesis of H_2O_2. They are prepared by depositing Pd in two ways:(i) reduction with N_2H_4 in an ultrasonic bath and(ii) by impregnation-deposition. The first preparation leads to larger particles, with average size of around 11 nm, while the second preparation leads to smaller particles, with average size around 4 nm. The catalytic membranes were tested as prepared, after thermal treatment in air and after further pre-reduction with H_2 in mild(100 ℃) conditions. Samples were characterized by TEM, CO-chemisorption monitored by DRIFTS method and TPR, while catalytic tests have been performed in a semi-batch recirculation membrane reactor. Experimental catalytic results were analysed using two kinetics models to derive the reaction constants for the parallel and consecutive reactions of the kinetic network. Smaller particles of Pd show lower selectivity due to the higher rate of parallel combustion, even if the better dispersion of Pd and thus higher metal surface area in the sample lead to a productivity in H_2O_2 similar or even higher than the sample with the larger Pd particles. Independently on the presence of smaller or larger Pd nanoparticles, an oxidation treatment leads to a significant enhancement in the productivity, although the catalyst progressively reduces during the catalytic process.
