| 3 | Real-world efficacy of daclatasvir and asunaprevir with respect to resistance-associated substitutions显示文摘AIM To investigate daclatasvir(DCV) and asunaprevir(ASV) efficacy in hepatitis C(HCV) patients, with respect to resistance-associated substitutions(RASs).METHODS A total of 392 HCV-infected patients from multiple centers were included in this study. We evaluated their clinical courses and sustained virologic responses(SVR) according to pretreatment factors(gender, age, history of interferon-based regimens, platelet counts, level of viremia, pretreatment NA5A:L31, and Y93 substitutions). We also analyzed the pretreatment and post-treatment major RASs of NS3:D168, NS5A:L31 and Y93 substitutions using a direct-sequencing method in 17 patients who were unable to achieve SVR at 12 wk after treatment completion(SVR12).RESULTS The overall SVR12 rate was 88.3%. Thirty-one patients discontinued treatment before 24 wk because of adverse events, 23 of whom achieved SVR12. There were no significant differences in SVR12 rates with respect to gender, age, history of interferon-based regimens, and platelet counts. The SVR12 rate in patients with viral loads of ≥ 6.0 log IU/m L was significantly lower than those with viral loads of < 6.0 log IU/m L(P < 0.001). The SVR12 rate in patients with Y93 substitution-positive was significantly lower than those with Y93 substitution-negative(P < 0.001). The L31 substitution-positive group showed a lower SVR12 rate than the L31 substitution-negative group, but the difference was not statistically significant. Seventeen patients who did not achieve SVR12 and had available pretreatment and post-treatment sera had additional RASs in NS3:D168, NS5:L31, and Y93 substitution at treatment failure.CONCLUSION Combination of DCV and ASV is associated with a high SVR rate. | 5 | Swimming behavior of juvenile silver carp near the separation zone of a channel confluence显示文摘Knowledge of locomotion of fish near river confluences is important for prediction of fish distribution in a river network.The flow separation zone near the confluence of a river network is a favorite habitat and feeding place for silver carp,which is one of the four major species of Chinese carp and usually provides positive rheotaxis to water flow.In the current study,a series of laboratory experiments were done to determine the behavioral responses of juvenile silver carp to the hydrodynamic forces near the separation zone of a channel confluence.The locomotion and trajectory of juvenile silver carp were recorded by infrared thermal imaging,while the flow velocity field near the separation zone was measured by a Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV)system.A total of 60 juvenile silver carp were released near the separation zone among which 40 carp swam in the upstream direction.Amongst them,24 carp swam to the tributary and the remaining 16 swam into the main channel.Almost all these 24 carp travelled initially along the boundary of the separation zone near the corner,where flow shear was strongest,and then swam to the tributary.Instead of avoiding zones of strong vorticity,they chose and followed a trajectory along which the flow vorticity was large.On encountering these vortical flows,they increased the tailbeat frequency and decreased the tail-beat amplitude to maintain body stability.These observations provide important knowledge on locomotion of fish near river confluences and are beneficial for the fish habitat protection. | Saiyu Yuan Lei Xu Hongwu Tang Yang Xiao Colin Whittaker | 2022 | International Journal of Sediment Research2022,37,1: | 2 |
| 6 | Experimental study of the settling of twin spherical particles released side by side: The impact of particle size, fluid viscosity, initial spacing, and particle density显示文摘The settling of solid particles in a fluid is an important process that needs to be considered in many fields of research.For example,the interactions among particles and between particles and the surrounding fluid are important topics in studying suspended sediment transport and water clarification.In this paper,the settling processes and interactions of twin spherical particles released side by side were experimentally studied.The Reynolds number varied in the range of 1-300,which is within the transition zone.Particle Tracking Velocimetry(PTV)and Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV)were utilized to capture the settlement trajectory,and provide insight into the flow fields around the particles.The influences of particle size,fluid viscosity,initial spacing,and particle density on the settling process were systematically investigated.The experimental results reveal that the initial spacing between the twin particles(l_(0)*)and the Reynolds number(Re)are the two most important factors affecting particle settling.The interaction between particles comprises only repulsion when the initial spacing is small,while the density of particles has little effect on the final settling state when the initial spacing is not very small.The flow fields around different particles are similar for the same Re,leading to similar final settlement behaviors,except for the case of l_(0)*=0,when the influence of particle rotation cannot be ignored.Except for the case of l_(0)*=0,although the particle density has little effect on the final settling behavior,it affects the repulsive process during settling.The final repulsive distance between the twin particles is highly dependent on Re and l_(0)*.Two critical Re values exist(~10 and~100),where the repulsive distance is negatively correlated with Re when Re<10,but it is positively correlated with Re when Re>100.However,the repulsive distance is always negatively correlated with l_(0)*.These findings can improve understanding of more complex phenomena such as the particle group settling process and sediment transport. | Yang Xiao Jieqing Liu Pei Zhang Jian Zhou Dongfang Liang Zhihao Wang Taotao Zhang Saiyu Yuan Hongwu Tang | 2023 | International Journal of Sediment Research2023,38,1: | 1 |

Additionally, when the incident electromagnetic power increases, thermal energy gathered by the meta-atom, which is converted from electromagnetic losses, can cause the meta-atom's temperature to increase. Because of the high temperature coefficient of the meta-atom's resonant frequency, this temperature increase causes a blueshift in the transmission peak. Therefore, this frequency-dependent enhanced electromagnetic transmission even produces a nonlinear effect at low incident powers. | 12 | Comparison of peg-interferon, ribavirin plus telaprevir vs simeprevir by propensity score matching显示文摘AIM: To compare efficacy of telaprevir(TVR) and simeprevir(SMV) combined with pegylated interferon(PEG-IFN) and ribavirin(RBV) while treating chronic hepatitis C(CHC). METHODS: In all, 306 CHC patients were included in this study. There were 159 patients in the TVR combination therapy group and 147 patients in the SMV combination therapy group. To evaluate pretreatment factors contributing to sustained virological response at 12 wk(SVR12), univariate and multivariate analyses were performed in TVR and SMV groups. To adjust for patient background between TVR and SMV groups, propensity score matching was performed. Virological response during treatment and SVR12 were evaluated.RESULTS: Overall rates of SVR12 [undetectable serum hepatitis C virus(HCV) RNA levels] were 79.2% and 69.4% in TVR and SMV groups, respectively. Patients in the SMV group were older, had higher serum HCV RNA levels, lower hemoglobin, higher prevalence of unfavorable interleukin-28B(IL28B) genotype(rs8099917), and poorer response to previous PEG-IFN and RBV treatment. Propensity score matching was performed to adjust for backgrounds(n = 104) and demonstrated SVR12 rates of 74.0% and 73.1% in the TVR and SMV groups, respectively. In the TVR group, discontinuation rates were higher because of adverse events; however, breakthrough and nonresponse was more frequent in the in SMV group. | 16 | Temporal variations of sediment and morphological characteristics at a large confluence accounting for the effects of floodplain submergence显示文摘The large confluence between the Yangtze River and the outflow channel of Poyang Lake is receiving attention due to its importance in flood control and ecological protection in the Yangtze River basin.There is a large floodplain along the outflow channel of Poyang Lake,which is submerged during high flow and dry during low flow.The effects of the submergence of this floodplain on sediment and morphological characteristics at this large confluence have not been known.Hence,a field investigation was done in March 2019(relatively high flow,Survey 3)to complement the previous field studies done in August(high flow,Survey 1)and December 2018(low flow,Survey 2)to identify the temporal variations of sediment and morphological characteristics considering the submergence of this large floodplain.The predominant sediment transport modes were wash load for Poyang Lake and confluence particles and mixed bedload/suspended load for the Yangtze River particles.The sediment transport processes were largely affected by both the secondary flows and the water density contrast between the tributaries with a lock-exchange sediment rich,denser flow moving across the inclined mixing interface in Surveys 1 and 2.The sediment flux across the mixing interface was weakened in Survey 3 when the density contrast was very small.The stagnation zone near the confluence apex had a low sediment concentration and played a role in preventing the sediment flux exchange between the two flows,and its size,and,thus,its importance as a barrier to sediment mixing were related to the submergence of the floodplain.The bed morphology with the local scour holes at the confluence was largely affected by the large-size helical cells,and this kind of effect was weakened as the secondary flows got restricted in Survey 3.The current results expand the database and knowledge on the sediment transport and morphological features of large river confluences. | Kun Li Hongwu Tang Saiyu Yuan Lei Xu Yang Xiao Carlo Gualtieri | 2022 | International Journal of Sediment Research2022,37,5: | 0 |
| 17 | Impact of the Yellow River capture on the paleoenvironmental changes of Hongze Lake,China显示文摘The Yellow River(YR)capture of the Huai River had a profound effect on the landscape evolution,ecology,and social development in China,disrupting the evolution of some vital shallow floodplain lakes.Because of the absence of lacustrine sediment provenance analysis,previous studies were inadequate in distinguishing the influence of YR capture on paleoenvironmental changes in these lakes,especially on landscape evolution,redox conditions,lake level changes,and organic productivity.The current study aims to use X-ray fluorescence-core scanning(XRF-CS)and multivariate statistics on a 9.8 m sediment core from Hongze Lake(HZL),China,to analyze the impact of the YR capture on the lake’s paleoenvironmental changes and the sediment provenance simultaneously.High-resolution images,magnetic susceptibility,and XRF-based multi-element data were obtained using a GEOTEK Multi-Sensor Core Logger.The calcium(Ca)content indicates the presence of YR sediment in HZL,given the high Ca content in YR sediment and the identification of mainly exogenous sources of Ca in HZL.The high values of Ca indicate that 48.7%of the sediment in the center of HZL is related to the YR’s incursion.Periods of higher Ca content coincide with periods of higher oxygenation levels of the lake(as indicated by the ratio of manganese to titanium)and lower organic content in the lake sediment(as indicated by the ratio of incoherent to coherent scatter).These analyses reveal that the YR’s capture of HZL significantly increased the lake’s oxygen level.Furthermore,the decrease in the organic content of sediment tends to be the result of the accelerated deposition caused by the YR.The decrease in Ca content coincides with an increase in lake levels(as indicated by magnetic susceptibility).Thus,it can be inferred that the embankment on the eastern side of HZL,built to increase lake storage,has reduced the incursion frequency of the YR. | Hongwu Tang Ming Gao Saiyu Yuan Huiming Zhang Yang Xiao Fuxin Zhang Kun Zhang | 2023 | International Journal of Sediment Research2023,38,4: | 0 |

| 19 | Comparisons of thermogenic features in four coexisting songbirds:Is the northward colonized White-browed Laughingthrush different?显示文摘Thermogenic features are often invoked to illustrate animal’s colonization,distribution,and response to climate change.To understand why the White-browed Laughingthrush(Pterorhinus sannio)has expanded its distribution to temperate zones in recent years,we compared its thermogenic features with three species of songbirds that cooccur in its newly colonized areas.Thermogenic parameters of these four species were measured under different ambient temperatures,ranging from 0 to 40℃.The results showed that basal metabolic rate(BMR)was 44.5±3.9 mL O2/h in P.sannio,which is lower than predicted value by its body weight.This is also lower than the BMR of both its temperate congener the Plain Laughingthrush(P.davidi)and the montane,similar species Elliot’s Laughingthrush(Trochalopteron elliotii).The thermal neutral zone(TNZ)in P.sannio was 15-35℃,as compared to 10-27.5℃in P.davidi,25-30℃in T.elliotii,and 7.5-32.5℃in the Green-capped Greenfinch(Chloris sinica).Thermal conductance was lowest in P.sannio,with the minimum value lower than the predicted value based on its body weight.Our results showed that the northward-colonizing P.sannio exhibited different thermogenic characteristics compared with its coexisting species in the new habitat,even its congener P.davidi,which shared similar microhabitats to P.sannio.We suggest that researchers further explore the physiological mechanisms of birds’northward expansion. | Pengfei Liu Rongrong Jin Miaomiao Jiang Saiyue Zhang Yuehua Sun | 2023 | Avian Research2023,14,1: | 0 |
| 20 | Experimental investigation on scour topography around high-rise structure foundations显示文摘The current study aims to investigate the characteristics of scour topography around High-Rise Structure Foundations(HRSFs)via physical modeling tests.Clear-water scour tests with a uniform non-cohesive bed are modeled under the action of unidirectional steady flows.Time variations of the erosion and deposition topography are measured.The results show that deposition downstream of the first dune behind the HRSF is not located on the centerline of the wake.The deposition pattern indicates that a long steady wake region exists behind the permeable foundation.The scour depth around an HRSF is much less than that around a monopile because of the structural permeability,which gives rise to the bleed flow and a weakened downflow and horseshoe vortex.Additionally,the asymmetry of the HRSF affects the scour rate but not the final equilibrium scour depth.The average scour slope decreases along the direction of the flow.On the contrary,the scour radial distance increases along the direction of the flow,with the average value changing from 1.36De to 2.35De(where De is the equivalent diameter of the foundation).Furthermore,the scour hole around the HRSF is serrated rather than smooth owing to the presence of multiple piles.Empirical formulae are suggested for estimating the evolution of scour depth and volume.These laboratory experiments provide reference information for relevant numerical modeling studies and can be applied to guide engineering designs in an ocean area. | Yang Xiao Hao Jia Dawei Guan Dongfang Liang Saiyu Yuan Hongwu Tang | 2021 | International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,3: | 0 |
