| 1 | The role and significance of Magnesium in modern day research-A review显示文摘Magnesium is one of the largely available elements in the earth’s crust. It has a low structural density with high specific strength. This unique material property has forced an increase in the use of magnesium and its alloys in various applications pertaining to industrial sector,automobiles, aerospace and biomedical. Since magnesium is a highly reactive metal, it is prone to higher rate of corrosion as compared to its counterparts. Thus, it is essential to analyze the corrosion behavior of magnesium and its alloys in its applications. An appropriate process is to be followed in the design and development of magnesium alloys which overcome the limitations of magnesium and enhance the desired material properties in accordance to their applications. This review paper summarizes the importance of magnesium and its material properties. The influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties of magnesium is reviewed. The broad classification of Mg alloys and their behavioral trends are detailed. The corrosion behavior of magnesium and the influence of corrosion products on the material characteristics of magnesium, in aqueous medium, are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of magnesium alloys along with the secondary techniques are also covered. The various applications and the limitations of magnesium in these applications are covered. A complete section is dedicated towards detailing the recent trends of magnesium(Mg) alloys, i.e., the biodegradable nature and applications of Mg alloys. The influence of biocorrosion on Mg alloys and techniques to overcome it have been deliberated. | 2 | Port site infection in laparoscopic surgery: A review of its management显示文摘Laparoscopic surgery(LS), also termed minimal access surgery, has brought a paradigm shift in the approach to modern surgical care. Early postoperative recovery, less pain, improved aesthesis and early return to work have led to its popularity both amongst surgeons and patients. Its application has progressed from cholecystectomies and appendectomies to various other fields including gastrointestinal surgery, urology, gynecology and oncosurgery. However, LS has its own package of complications. Port site infection(PSI), although infrequent, is one of the bothersome complications which undermine the benefits of minimal invasive surgery. Not only does it add to the morbidity of the patient but also spoils the reputation of the surgeon. Despite the advances in the field of antimicrobial agents, sterilization techniques, surgical techniques, operating room ventilation, PSIs still prevail. The emergence of rapid growing atypical mycobacteria with multidrug resistance, which are the causative organism in most of the cases, has further compounded the problem. PSIs are preventable if appropriate measures are taken preoperatively, intraoperatively and postoperatively. PSIs can often be treated non-surgically, with early identification and appropriate management. Macrolides, quinolones and aminoglycosides antibiotics do show promising activity against the atypical mycobacteria. This review article highlights the clinical burden, presentations and management of PSIs in LS as shared by various authors in the literature. We have given emphasis to atypical mycobacteria, which are emerging as a common etiological agent for PSIs in LS. | 3 | Salmonella typhi and gallbladder cancer:report from an endemic region显示文摘BACKGROUND:Evidence exists of a link between chronic infection by Salmonella typhi(S.typhi) and the development of gallbladder cancer(GBC),but several studies from endemic regions contradict its role in the etiopathogenesis of GBC.This study used various tools to assess the prevalence of S.typhi in patients with GBC and gallstone disease(GSD) in this region with a high incidence of GBC.METHODS:S.typhi was detected in tissue and bile by PCR and culture and in serum by the Widal test and indirect hemagglutination assay(IHA).PCR with two pairs of S.typhi specific primers(flagellin gene H1d and SOP E gene) could detect 0.6 ng of S.typhi DNA.Fifty-four patients with GBC(cases) were matched with 54 patients with GSD(controls).RESULTS:Of the 54 cases,24(44.44%) were positive on the Widal test and 12(22.22%) on IHA,compared to 13(24.07%) and 5(9.26%) respectively in the controls.Eighteen(33.33%) cases showed a positive result on PCR(tissue) and 2 on PCR(bile) vs.none in the controls.Bile culture revealed no Salmonella colonies in either cases or controls.Only 3 cases were positive for Salmonella on tissue culture compared to none in the controls.The sensitivity of PCR(tissue) relative to the Widal test,IHA,culture(bile and tissue) and PCR(bile) was 100% vs.66.67%,11.11%,and 11.11%,and the specificity was 83.33% vs.100%,100%,and 100%,respectively.CONCLUSIONS:S.typhi is significantly associated with GBC compared to GSD(33% vs.0%).PCR appears to be the most specific diagnostic tool,the gold standard for S.typhi in tissue samples. | Mallika Tewari Raghvendra R Mishra Hari S Shukla | 2010 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2010,9,5: | 5 |
| 4 | Laparoscopic liver resection:Wedge resections to living donor hepatectomy, are we heading in the right direction?显示文摘Despite inception over 15 years ago and over 3000 completed procedures, laparoscopic liver resection has remained mainly in the domain of selected centers and enthusiasts. Requirement of extensive open liver resection(OLR) experience, in-depth understanding of anatomy and considerable laparoscopic technical expertise may have delayed wide application. However healthy scepticism of its actual benefits and presence of a potential publication bias; concern about its safety and technical learning curve, are probably equally responsible. Given that a large proportion of our work, at least in transplantation is still OLR, we have attempted to provide an entirely unbiased, mature opinion of its pros and cons in the current invited review. We have dividedthis review into two sections as we believe they merit separate attention on technical and ethical grounds. The first part deals with laparoscopic liver resection(LLR) in patients who present with benign or malignant liver pathology, wherein we have discussed its overall outcomes; its feasibility based on type of pathology and type of resection and included a small section on application of LLR in special scenarios like cirrhosis. The second part deals with the laparoscopic living donor hepatectomy(LDH) experience to date, including its potential impact on transplantation in general. Donor safety, graft outcomes after LDH and criterion to select ideal donors for LLR are discussed. | 5 | Inflammatory bowel disease:Therapeutic limitations and prospective of the stem cell therapy显示文摘Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),consisting primarily of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease,is a group of debilitating auto-immune disorders,which also increases the risk of colitis-associated cancer.However,due to the chronic nature of the disease and inconsistent treatment outcomes of current anti-IBD drugs(e.g.,approximately 30%non-responders to anti-TNFαagents),and related serious side effects,about half of all IBD patients(in millions)turn to alternative treatment options.In this regard,mucosal healing is gaining acceptance as a measure of disease activity in IBD patients as recent studies have correlated the success of mucosal healing with improved prognosis.However,despite the increasing clinical realization of the significance of the concept of mucosal healing,its regulation and means of therapeutic targeting remain largely unclear.Here,stemcell therapy,which uses hematopoietic stem cells or mesenchymal stem cells,remains a promising option.Stem cells are the pluripotent cells with ability to differentiate into the epithelial and/or immune-modulatory cells.The overreaching concept is that the stem cells can migrate to the damaged areas of the intestine to provide curative help in the mucosal healing process.Moreover,by differentiating into the mature intestinal epithelial cells,the stem cells also help in restoring the barrier integrity of the intestinal lining and hence prevent the immunomodulatory induction,the root cause of the IBD.In this article,we elaborate upon the current status of the clinical management of IBD and potential role of the stem cell therapy in improving IBD therapy and patient’s quality of life. | Rangnath Mishra Punita Dhawan Anand S Srivastava Amar B Singh | 2020 | World Journal of Stem Cells2020,12,10: | 4 |
| 6 | 采用分生组织培养生产脱甘蔗黄叶病毒苗(英文)显示文摘【目的】尝试使用茎尖分生组织培养技术生产UP 01235和UP 0097 2个甘蔗品种的脱甘蔗黄叶病毒(SCYLV)脱毒组培苗。【方法】以大田染病和健康甘蔗植株的不同大小茎尖分生组织为外植体,经培养获得组培幼苗。采用1对甘蔗黄叶病毒特异性引物(SCYLV-615F:5′-ATGAATACGGGCGCTAACCGYYCAC-3′和 SCYLV-615R:5′-GT-GTTGGGGRAGCGTCGCYTACC-3′)进行RT-PCR分析,在6个月内每隔1个月检查1次组培苗是否存在病毒。【结果】当以1.5 mm茎尖进行培养时,获得的2个甘蔗品种的组培苗在温室种植,在生长期间未发现存在黄叶病毒,说明黄叶病毒已被消除;而以超过1.5 mm的茎尖为外植体时,PCR分析表明结果,所获得的组培苗存在黄叶病毒。【结论】对以1.0~1.5 mm茎尖培养获得的200多株组培苗进行温室繁殖,在生长期间均未发现黄叶病毒。 | Mishra S Rao G P | 2011 | 南方农业学报2011,42,1: | 3 |
